Geotechnical Engineering division
This division specializes in the evaluation of the engineering properties of soil and how they relate to the design and construction of a proposed project. Most typically, we are involved in evaluating the most suitable type(s) of foundation for a structure and providing design criteria for the recommended type(s). Our common studies relate to pavement considerations for roadways and parking areas and soil permeability and leakage evluations for sanitary landfills.
These efforts generally require exploration borings and the obtaining of relatively undisturbed soil samples by a Shelby Tube sampler. These soil samples are sealed and returned to our laboratory for visual and textural examination and laboratory tests, in accordance with applicable standards such as ASTM or AASHTO etc.
Please review the accreditation document coastaltestinglabs.com/geo_accredit.htm for the scope of our testing accreditation.
Our experience is relatively broad adn includes multi-story commercial structures, major perto-chemical installations, slope stability studies for both braced and open excavations, airport runways and taxiways and associated facilities, bridges, bulkhead and docking facilities on major waterways, commercial shopping centers and residential developments.
